How to Get a Good Deal From a Junk Car Buying Company?

ByShanu R

If you have an old and non-operational car then it is a junk car. You may want to get rid of it, but you are not sure how to go about doing it. You may be considering getting in touch with one of the numerous companies that advertise themselves as saying 'we buy junk cars. However, before you go ahead and get in touch, there are a couple of things that you should be aware of to ensure that you get a good deal for your junk car. There are tons of companies that are unscrupulous, and not just in the junk car industry. So you always have to be careful when you go about making the decision of selling your car to them.

Firstly, you have to ensure that you get a good deal for your car and that you are not cheated. The most obvious way in which you can do so is to shop around. Get in touch with as many junkyards as you can. If your car is immobile invite them to see it and then make you an offer to purchase it if they are interested. Once you have received offers from several companies you will then be able to compare them and select the one that offers you the best price. With such a transaction you are allowed to negotiate with them. Remember that they are not doing you a favour. They will also be making money from the car. Avoid companies that try to offer you a price that they are not prepared to negotiate.

Also, you should avoid companies that want to charge you, or deduct from their offer price, the cost of towing the car to their premises. They should be able to do this at no cost to you whatsoever. A company that tries to make you pay for the towing costs in some way is not a reliable company so you cannot be sure that they are offering you a fair price. Also be aware that like in other industries there are fly-by-night companies that are not ethical in their behaviour. So make sure that they make their offer to you on paper. If you accept their offer they should be able to pay you the total amount at once. If they want to stagger their payments, there could be a problem and you may not receive all the money that was promised to you. At this point it may be too late to get the car back because these junkyards often dismantle the cars and then sell them off in parts.

Moreover, both parties should agree to the payment method during the negotiations. Make sure that you insist on a payment method that is full proof and will guarantee you getting all of your money. For example, try not to accept payment in the form of checks, sometimes they bounce. Try to get payment in cash or as a direct deposit into your bank account. This is the best way for you to guarantee that you will get all of the money that is promised to you. If the company insists on signing a contract, you should make sure that you read it carefully. There could be hidden fees that they did not previously discuss with you which could greatly reduce the amount of money that you end up getting. For example, the towing costs.

Once you receive the payment from the company you will have to transfer ownership to them. It is important to them that they receive proof that you are actually the owner in the form of a title to the car. This is because it is illegal to purchase a car that has been stolen. So make sure that you have this documentation ready when they need it.
