From the Credit Doctor - 5 Essential Car Buying Tools

The economic downturn of late has had far-reaching effects in the marketplace. So, if you have happened upon this article, you might be considering buying a car at a time when you have bad credit and it may not be something you are used to dealing with. The good news is that the auto industry is used to it. Very used to it.

Remember that the more people in the marketplace with poor credit (or worse), the fewer people with good credit the lenders can lend to. So they are faced with either broadening their lending standards, or downsizing and waiting out the market for better days.

Whenever a lender lowers their approval bar, they raise their lending stipulations (things they make you prove) accordingly. These stipulations, along with another factor or two, are often all that stand between you and getting approved for your next car.

1. Income - Income is not how much you say you make, or even how much you actually make, but rather what you can prove you make. Acceptable income proof tends to be fairly rigid. Lenders want a pay stub if you are a W-2 employee, or at least 2 years of tax returns if you are self-employed or a subcontractor. Tips are not considered income when they are not contained within the above proof.

2. Stability - Just as the lender wants you to prove your income, they also want some assurance that you do not wind up losing your job every few months. If you can prove you have been with the same employer, or at least the same field, they feel better about their risk.

3. Budget - Though it sounds the same as income, budget is different. Income is how much you make. Budget is the percentage of your income that a lender could allow for a vehicle payment (usually 13% to 15%). Often, you'll want to see how much a lender will budget you for before you select a vehicle.

4. Taste - Your taste in vehicles can sometimes influence the decision on the part of the lender. For example, you need a car loan and you have two repossessions, a foreclosure, you have filed bankruptcy, and/or you have not paid your child support in a while. So the lender asks What kind of vehicle does he want? and the finance person at the dealerships answers An Escalade. Can I just say this, hungry people do not usually demand lobster. If that does not make sense, this article will not help you.

5. Attitude - This stuff never winds up in writing for a dealership or a lender who is making the decision of whether or not to approve your loan, but having said that; if you are unable to keep your appointment, if you are unable to return your calls, if you are unable to show up with all of your necessary materials to get a car that you want, why would they expect you to work as hard as you can to make your payment? I'm just saying.

Why Cheap Cars Are Great

ByGert Demsky

In case you have not yet noticed, there is an economic crisis in progress at the moment. A lot of companies are going under and a lot of people are losing their jobs left right and centre. The cost of living is going up and the salaries are not going up along with it. People need to find way s to save as much money as possible. One of the ways that you can do this is to look at cheap cars instead of the kind of cars you would normally go for.

One of the things that cheap cars are great for is reducing the monthly repayments that you will have to make on your car. Because the car costs less you will have to take out a smaller loan to be able to pay for the car. This means that your repayments on that loan will be smaller as you do not owe as much to the bank. This makes getting from month to month a great deal easier as your monthly expenses are less.

The cars that are considered to be cheap cars are also generally small cars. This means that they are generally a lot more economical to run. This means that you are going to be able to spend a lot less each month on things like fuel and oil. The car is smaller and that means that it will use less fuel to get the same amount of forward momentum as a larger car with a similar sized and mapped engine would be able to.

Cheap cars are also great for things like learner drivers. They are cheap to buy and therefore they are cheap to repair. This means that if your child happens to crash the car and do some damage the repairs will not cost too much since the parts for the car are going to be a lot cheaper than for some other kinds of vehicle. This makes them ideal for people on a small budget or are accident prone. This makes them ideal for people who are new to driving or learning to drive as they are likely to crash and will need to repair their car from time to time.

In general, cheap cars are really affordable for a number of reasons. They do not cost a great deal to purchase, they do not cost a great deal to run, they do not cost a great deal to repair if they are damaged either. All in all, cheap cars are a great buy if you want to save money.

If course, if you do take this options then you may need to do a bit of research before you commit to a particular car. You want to be sure that the car is reliable and safe as well as cheap. You do not want to be saving money on the cost of your car and then end up spending it on repairs and maintenance on the car. The point of a cheap car is to save money not spend it.

Resetting the Dodge PCM

Some jobs can easily be done at home. All you need is a bit of guidance. Resetting the powertrain control module (PCM) is one such task.

So what exactly is a PCM? A PCM is basically an ECU or electronic control unit which is commonly used in a motor vehicle. Most often the PCM is a combination of an engine control unit or an ECU and the transmission control unit. The PCM controls more than five operations in a truck or car.

Let's take the case of the PCM in a Dodge Durango. You will find the PCM on the passenger side or the right side of the engine. This is the SUV's circuit board computer and it has been made to tolerate extreme climate changes.

The various components in the transmission, engine, powertrain and other functional areas transfer information to the PCM. If a malfunction is detected, the error indicator on the instrument panel lights up.

The point in question here is whether there is a need to reset the Dodge PCM and when, if at all.

Here's how you reset the Dodge PCM. Once the car's hood is opened, you will see the battery inside. You will have to disconnect the battery's black wired negative terminal. Put the ignition onto the crank/on status for half a minute and then turn the ignition back to the off mode. Connect the negative battery terminal. Close the hood and then start the vehicle and let it idle. Now check the status of the error light on the instrument panel.

There are other methods to reset the Dodge PCM. You have to scan and clear the error codes which acted as the trigger for the malfunction light. There are some special tools for this purpose such as the scan tool or code reader-eraser. These tools are not easily available.

In addition to this, after the battery has been disconnected and the PCM has been reset, the PCM will need time to relearn. This is what Dodge mechanics and technicians have been debating about.

Whether the PCM has been reset of if it has not; the PCM has to relearn. The time taken to reset and relearn vis a vis the time taken to replace the component and relearn is about the same. So the only time the PCM should be reset is when the component which set the error code jangling has been repaired or replaced. Otherwise the same component will trigger the malfunction indicator light on the dashboard.

If you need to replace the Dodge PCM computer for van, truck or car there are a number of online stores where you could pick up what you require. Make sure that your read the fine print before you sign on for a PCM or any other part for that matter. You can get yourself a top quality re-manufactured PCM computer at rates which are much better than what dealers offer. Most stores offer a lifetime warranty on these re-manufactured PCM computer. This way, you can replace and drive off.

Thank you for reading this article. For loads of more information on the Dodge PCM please visit our website.

Stop and Think Before Buying Your Teen a Car

ByRobin L Wood

Before your teen is able to drive they will probably drop some not so subtle hints about the type of car they are hoping that you will buy them for this momentous time in their life. You start to panic as you hear their dreams of a sports car or a big truck. How are you going to afford a car for them? What car will be the safest? Do you buy new or used? There are many factors for you to think about before you buy a car for your teen. This article will take a look at some of the things to consider before you purchase your teen their dream car. Hopefully with these recommendations, you will be able to find a car that both your wallet and your teen are happy with.

Since you thinking about buying a car for your teen then safety is probably your highest priority. Based on research, a midsized car is usually best for teen drivers. You can get together with your teen and let them know that you are willing to get them a car that meets certain standards and let them chose one they like from there, that way you both compromise. Whether you decide to buy new or used, it is important to check the crash test and safety ratings before purchase. If you decide to get a used car, it is also helpful to get a car fax report. This will let you know of any incidents the car has been in.

Another cost that you want to consider is the price of car insurance. You will see an increase in your rates on top of the money you use to help them buy their car. You will have to decide who will cover this cost. Insuring a teen driver is one of the more expensive things that you will see on your rates. Look into good student discounts, or accident forgiveness.

Do not be afraid to set boundaries with your teen driver. There is no reason that they need to be driving late or have their car pack with friends. Peer pressure is a growing concern with teen drivers. They often feel the need to show off and that is why accidents occur. Limit the number of people that they can have in their car. Set a curfew in regards to them driving their car. You could even make it a strictly work and school vehicle only. Most importantly talk to them about the dangers of using their cell phone when driving. Make sure they understand there is nothing more important than their life.

Buying a car for your teen does not have to stress you out. With a little research and some quote comparing, you will be able to know what you can handle financially. Then you will be able to talk to your teen and come to mutual agreements about what is acceptable and not acceptable with them driving. They are still young and will need the boundaries to protect them, but you can still let it be a fun time and enjoyable experience for them.

Songs About Cars and Driving

ByRobin L Wood

Most people listen to music or the radio when they are driving around town or on road trips. Which, it may not all be the same music, since everyone has different tastes, but everyone can agree that some of the best songs to listen to in the car are songs about cars or driving. Some of these songs are classics, and some are ones that only a handful has ever heard. However, these songs can put you in the mood to take a road trip or even to get you going on the trip to work.

The first song is 'Hot Rod Lincoln' by Charlie Ryan. This song is about a guy and his hot rod Lincoln, as the title suggests, that he races around in with his friends. Eventually he gets arrested and his Pappy has to bail him from jail and says "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop drivin' that hot rod Lincoln."

'Mustang Sally' by Wilson Pickett is next on our list. Even though Wilson Pickett was not the first person to sing this song, he is the one who made it popular. The song is about a girl who lives life on the wild side and travels around town in her new Mustang. She is warned to slow her mustang down, meaning she needs to slow down her life and not be such a wild child.

One song about driving that is a classic is 'Route 66'. Originally sung by Nat King Cole, this song has been redone several times and has been a favorite stand by for movies that involve road trips or driving. It is about, well, Route 66 that runs through the United States. The song mentions some of the cities that the highway passes through and says it is the best way to go there. Don't forget to "get your kicks on route 66."

Prince's 'Little Red Corvette' belongs on this list. This classic song is about a one night stand. The girl drives a red Corvette, and like in 'Mustang Sally', she is told she needs to slow down since she seems to be a hit it an quit it kind of girl. So, yes, this song may not actually be about a car, but we still love it as a car song because, who doesn't love a red Corvette?

'Low Rider' by War is a song that this list can't be without. This song is not only about a certain type of car, but also a type of culture. It is about a Low Rider who takes pride in his car and wants to show it off. Although when the song first came out, many people thought it was about drugs because of some of the lyrics, but it has nothing to do with drugs, and people who were considered to be Low Riders were anything but. Some of them were mechanics and held down respectable jobs.

Of course, what would a song list be without The Beatles? 'Drive My Car' by The Beatles is more than just a classic, it's a legend. The song is about a girl who wants to be famous and asks a man to be her chauffeur, and possibly something more. Eventually the man agrees, only to find out she doesn't have a car, but that's okay, love is really what you need right? Well, maybe she will eventually get a car loan so they can go cruising.

Sr22 Insurance - Everything You Need to Know

If you have been caught and convicted for driving under the influence (DUI) you may find it difficult to get insurance for your car again, even after your license is reinstated. Most auto insurance companies won't provide policies to people convicted of this kind of charge, and those who do usually are way too expensive for the average driver to afford. So what can you do to get car insurance after a DUI conviction if you don't have thousands of dollars to spend on auto insurance?

SR22 insurance is a vehicle liability insurance document from a car insurance company verifying that the driver has a policy above a given state's minimum liability limits. It's used by some Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices as proof of that coverage, and it's also used for drivers who have had an uninsured car accident. In some cases it's actually required and not optional, for the three years after driving without insurance and up to five years for a DUI conviction.

SR22 is a high risk policy that is not offered by all car insurance companies and in some cases only to policyholders. It does, however, open the door to getting DUI auto insurance cheaper, as the SR22 signals the driver as employable. You may be required to pay several months to a year in advance, as it's a high risk policy, but at least you'll be on your way to getting your driving license reinstated after your DUI conviction. If it's your first time being caught driving while intoxicated this process will be significantly easier than if you accumulate several penalties.

The requirement to keep a high risk policy usually expires after several years, depending on the charge that originated it, and provided that you don't have any more charges and keep a good safety record.

Since SR22 insurance can be quite a hit on your finances, it's important to shop around and look for quotes both online and in person, as not all insurance companies will offer it at affordable prices.

Things You Should Know About the Dodge ECM

Today only a small percentage of people are still surprised that their cars are equipped with computers. The majority of car owners and drivers know that cars have up to seven microprocessors in the vehicle. These microprocessors enhance performance, comfort, and safety and are environment friendly.

Let's take a look at what the Engine Control Module (ECM) does in your car. It controls the fuel injection, the ignition timing and everything else that makes the drive smooth. If the ECM starts malfunctioning, then its time you thought of a replacement.

It is not for nothing that the Federal Government has mandated that fuel injection systems and ignition, in motor vehicles, must be computer controlled. There are three reasons for this move. Safety is the primary reason, followed closely by fuel efficiency and finally to bring down emissions.

In a number of cases, mechanics and owners have not been able to find out the real cause for problems in starting the cars. Take the case of my friend's Dodge ECM. He spend over $1000 on repairs and replacing parts before he realized that all that was required was that the ECM had to be replaced. So it is important that you identify the problem properly.

Parts such as the distributor, battery, ISC (idle speed control) motor, injectors, TPS (throttle position switch) and intake cam sensors are the ones which are often misdiagnosed as faulty. So if the mechanic does not realize that the fault is with ECM, you will end up paying a lot of money for parts you don't require.

When you are trying to locate a problem in the fuel injection systems you should take the informed approach to find out the error in the engine computer. In the case of the Dodge ECM, you should get it tested to see if it is functioning as per norm. What is required is an analog volt/ohmmeter. You need to place the testers on the top right and the bottom left pin for the ECM scan cable harness. If there is a total sweep from left to right then your Dodge ECM is functioning well. If the movement is only to the left, it means the ECM is not working.

You should get your Dodge ECM scanned by the authorized personnel who have the right tools for this function. Many of the manufacturers have tools for scanning the ECMs. The scan will throw up the errors. You can also check the ECM without the scan tools; for that you will have to refer to the manufacturer's manual.

The methods to monitor the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) differ on certain vehicles. Some vehicles have an MIL built into the ECM while in some the check engine light will glow in series.
You will need to check the Dodge ECM if there is starting trouble. If the engine computer has packed up then you need to get a replacement. There are many online stores where you could pick up an ECM which is programmed for your vehicle.

There are also places where you could repair the Dodge ECM. These online stores are cheaper than the dealers. These remanufactured ECMs are ready for shipping so there is no waiting time.

Thank you for reading this article. For loads of more information on the Dodge ECM please visit our website.

Check Your Source Before You Buy a Dodge ECU

All vehicles, these days, come with an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), which is now an integral part of modern vehicle engine control. These ECUs are equipped with a microprocessor to administer various actuators of the engine to optimize its functioning.

What the ECU does is that, based on the inputs that the microprocessor receives from the many sensors in the engine (collectively known as Look-up Tables or LUTs), it optimally regulates the fuel quantity, ignition time, the gear to speed ratio and other parameters that aid the internal combustion engine to maximize performance. These were all done manually before ECUs made its appearance on the automobile scene.

The state of the art engine computers get inputs from many sources and control the engine. A good example is the variable valve timing systems which are controlled electronically and the turbo charger waste gates which are also controlled electronically. The engine computer also interfaces with the transmission control units and the automatic transmissions. The ECUs in the vehicles today may also be equipped with many other controls like cruise, anti skid brake and so on.

If you are looking for a Dodge ECU, you can buy it off any online store. There are many online stores that sell ECUs. You would need to browse the net to find the right one. Compare their services and prices and make your selection.

Make sure you log on to the right online dealer who offers a warranty and will programme the module to match your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and mileage.

The module must also be updated with the latest software update from Chrysler.

To get the right Dodge ECU, it is important to furnish the year of manufacture and make of your Dodge vehicle, since the ECUs don't come with a one-size-fits-all. In the 2012 line up Dodge has a range of five cars that is the Avenger, Challenger, Dart, Charger and the Caliber while Durango, Nitro and Journey are the SUVs (sports utility vehicles) or crossover vehicles. The company also produces a minivan branded the Grand Caravan.

That's not the end of the story as there are a number of older Dodge models on the road and it is for these vehicles that ECU is often replaced.

Let the dealer also know the relevant part number, as this would greatly help in programming the module correctly. Once your order is confirmed and paid for, the dealer will ship you the Dodge ECU with a pre-paid return label. You must then return your old ECU for the warranty to be active. The warranty will cease if the old ECU is not returned. Check if the product includes shipping and handling otherwise you will be charged additionally. Some Dodge dealers may also offer a lifetime free warranty for the ECU when you buy the product.

The Dodge ECU that you buy from an online store is a re-manufactured and custom programmed module made to OEM specifications incorporating the latest updates from Mopar (the automobile parts and service unit of Chrysler Group LLC, the makers of Dodge vehicles.) You only need to plug in and get going with no additional programming required. It is as easy as that.

Thank you for reading this article. For loads of more information on the Dodge ECU please visit our website.

Why Use an Enclosed Car Transport Carrier

When it comes to moving vehicles over land, the main means of doing so is using auto transport companies. The next step once you have decided to go this route is to determine whether you want to move your vehicle in an enclosed car transport carrier or an open one. Both types of carriers have benefits and disadvantages, but sometimes using a particular type is a better option.

The Advantages of Using an Enclosed Car Transport Carrier

Many people may not care what type of vehicle is used when hauling their vehicles as long as it is done properly and their vehicles arrive at their intended destination in good condition. This is not a major factor for them because they know that most auto transport companies are professional and take care of their wheels no matter what. Nonetheless, others want to play a role in controlling the safety and protection of their vehicles and will express a preference as to the kind of haulage carrier used.

This type of carrier is ideal for certain types of motor vehicles. The types that usually require an enclosed car transport carrier are:

Replacing the Jeep PCM

Replacement of the PCM (powertrain control module) in Jeeps is in great demand these days, because there seems to be a rather large rate of failure for these automobile microprocessors in the US.

So what is a PCM and what is its function in your Jeep?
The PCM, called the JTEC or Jeep/Truck Engine Controller, like its name suggests is positioned in the engine. This triple microprocessor is digital and pre programmed. The PCM controls the ignition timing, emission control, fuel systems, air-fuel ration, charging system, speed control, idle speed and air conditioning.

The PCM gets inputs from a number of sensors and switches and acts on the inputs to regulate the working of the engine. The programming is adapted to changing climatic conditions.

How well a vehicle performs is dependent on how good the powertrain is. Vehicles with automatic transmission are totally computerized and the computer will indicate when the gears have to be shifted. In manual transmission vehicles, the driver learns through trial and error when to change gears to get the best possible mileage and performance from the vehicle.

Off roaders will find that they can fine tune the transmission shifting points and the engine by slightly tweaking the software with an electronic device which is connected to the Jeep PCM. This really helps driving when they off-road.

If the Jeep PCM fails, then there will be a number of problems; error lights will appear on the dash, there will be electrical issues and in most parts the Jeep will not run properly.

However, most problems of the Jeep PCM are rooted in some common faults. The first one is when there is surplus voltage. Sometimes there could a short circuit in the supply or wiring. If the vehicle gets a shock then the PCM will be affected. Too much of power can burn out the PCM. This happens in general with the actuator or solenoid circuit.

Corrosion, vibrations and thermal stress are also factors which can adversely impact your Jeep PCM. A word of warning to off-roaders; if the PCM gets water logged or bogged in mud it will result in failure.

Some cases of failure have been attributed to a manufacturing defect. So if you have the misfortune to get a faulty PCM and your Jeep is not too old, better replace the PCM.

There are a lot of places where you can find high quality PCMs. Some of the better online stores and dealers offer you trained engineers who will build up the Jeep PCM and program it to your vehicle.

The PCM then under goes some very stringent quality control tests and is measured against the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) standards. This is not a difficult task. You will need to give them the mileage and the VIN (vehicle identification number) of your vehicle. This will ensure that the PCM is calibrated properly and will easily facilitate plug and play. So once the Jeep PCM is fitted you will be on the road again.

Thank you for reading this article. For loads of more information on the Jeep PCM please visit our website.

MyLink Vs Blue Link

Two of the most popular telematics systems used on some of the vehicle models in the market is Hyundai's "Blue Link" and Chevrolet's "MyLink". This is the reason why a lot of car experts and automotive journalists are making their own telematics review on these. Almost every telematics review has tried to compare the features, functions, and benefits of these systems. Due to this, a few similarities as well as differences were highlighted and some of these are the following.

1. Features

Majority of the telematics review that were focused on examining the features of Hyundai's Blue Link and Chevrolet's MyLink found out that the two systems are offering almost similar features. Both of these systems allow their users to integrate their smartphones into their vehicles' telematics systems and use these to connect to the outside world by making and receiving calls, sending and receiving messages, and searching the internet.

Aside from that, MyLink and Blue Link also provide a number of safety features that ensure the car occupants' safety in the event of accident or other emergency situations. Blue Link provides a number of safety applications such as SOS emergency Assistance and crash notifications. MyLink on the other hand offers turn-by-turn navigation, automatic crash response, and live advisor. Through these features, the vehicles equipped with MyLink and Blue Link are safer compared to those that are not using any telematics system.

2. Benefits

The benefits provided by Hyundai's Blue Link and Chevrolet's MyLink are also quite similar. Both of these telematics system allow their users to connect to the outside world while driving by making or receiving calls as well as messages and connect to the internet. These systems also provide entertainment to the car occupants by allowing them to access different music files using the telematics system. Finally, Blue Link and MyLink are making the vehicles equipped with these systems safer by providing additional safety applications in the event of emergencies.

3. Pricing

In terms of pricing, Blue Link is cheaper compared to MyLink. In fact, pricing is considered as the most significant difference among the two. Hyundai has ensured that the telematics systems that they install on their vehicles are cheap enough to allow their growing number of customers to spend lesser amounts of money just to purchase these. However, the demand for MyLink-equipped cars is still overwhelming despite of its relatively higher price and this makes the competition between the two more intense.

How to Choose a DVLA New Style Registration

Choosing a New style DVLA number plate is quite a simple exercise. Just like when choosing a prefix style registration, the most important thing to consider is the age of the car you are buying for. The reason that this is so important is because you cannot make a vehicle look newer than it actually is. It's not quite so simple just knowing what year the car was manufactured as the DVLA have now made things very complicated.

For example, if you have a car made in 2003, it could be a "52" plate car or a "03" plate car or even a "53" plated car. It is now more important than ever to know the precise date of first registration so that the number plate dealer can assist you without a problem.

When you have established the actual date of registration, the next step is to choose the letters to appear in the plate. A very popular choice with this type of plate is to have both his and hers initials. So for example, assuming the car was registered as XC03 VBF this would mean that it was registered between 1st March 2003 and 31st August 2003 and so John Smith and Mary Veronica Smith could have JS03 MVS to represent both their names on the registration plate. In fact they could have any number plate with the same letters providing that the numbers in the middle were issued prior to the "03" plate.

The order of the numbers issued in chronological order are 51, 02, 52, 03, 53, 04, 54, 05, 55, 06, 56, 07, 57, 08, 58, 09, 59, 10, 60, 11 and 61 up until this point. The change of number is made each March and September and it's a simple calculation of adding 50 to the current release to determine the next in line.

Popular combinations of letters and numbers include the OO07 plates to resemble the James Bond theme and lots of drivers plump for the MR or XX prefix part of number plate as it more striking. Some combinations have been withdrawn from sale by the DVLA so that they can be sold at auction where they attract much higher sums of money. Number plates such as XX51 NGH and DH11 LON have recently been sold for huge sums of money. Although the new style DVLA number plates are not as popular with motorists as the prefix style, they will be around for the next 40 years so eventually they will grow on us.

The Private Plate Company are one of the longest trading private number plate dealers in the UK. Their success is attributed to their ability to provide quality private number plates at sensible prices in the quickest possible time.

Mobility Scooter: Benefits

BySteve Welch

Mobility scooters are personal transportation vehicles for adults or children. They are usually used by the elderly who have difficulty getting from one place to another by themselves and without pain or struggle. These devices are also used by the partially disabled. A mobility scooter allows people who were once confined to their homes and relied on others for help when walking far distances to lead a more independent lifestyle.

A wheelchair and a mobility scooter or mobility chair function in very similar ways. The advantage of using mobility scooters is that the scooter provides a means of transportation without the requirement of good upper body strength to propel it forward like in a wheelchair. Good shoulder and arm strength as well as good finger dexterity to grab the rims of the wheels are needed in wheelchair users. Without the right amount of adequate strength, a person riding a wheelchair will not be able to travel far enough to make it outside their home. It will also be quite difficulty to maneuver ramps.

Mobility scooters, which have an average speed of 4 to 8 mph, can come as electric models that are similar to motorized wheelchairs. The scooters are usually powered by electricity and can be easily charged at night. In the morning, a person can then immediately begin using the scooter around the house. The scooter's battery charge will last several hours before the mobility chair needs to be recharged again. These models typically have a second backup battery system which kicks in when the first battery becomes drained. Mobility scooters can also be powered by gas. Gas powered scooters are thought to be less quiet and less convenient to use.

Besides having the functionality of a motorized wheelchair, mobility scooters provide the comfort of a regular scooter. A mobility scooter has a comfortable seat which allows the one riding the scooter to withstand much longer durations on the chair than on other mobility devices. The passenger's feet can also rest with ease.

These electric-powered or gasoline-powered devices are ideal for outdoor use. Many other mobility devices confine its user to the indoors. With these motorized scooters, there is no worry of the scooter getting damaged in normal outdoor conditions. Scooters can be driven on uneven surfaces such as inclines and street curbs. Whether driven inside or in the outdoors, scooters offer more mobility options because they are less bulky than their alternatives. Scooters for mobility can often be easily disassembled for storage.

The need for personal use scooters has increased over the years. There are now many less expensive models in the market. Because of that rise of people using scooters, some retailers have provided motorized scooters for their patrons to shop with less hassle. Part of the payment of a motorized scooter can sometimes be covered by insurance or by medicare if a doctor prescribed the scooter. Medical scooters for adults are still cheaper than power assisted wheelchairs which have made them a more popular choice among the elderly and disabled.

Automotive Warning Lights: Multiple Light Syndrome

ByMark Bodwell

This has been a difficult topic to write about. My goal is always to explain an automotive issue so that an average driver can follow along and understand. But I have been over and over and over this article, and I'm still not sure if I'm conveying the message properly. That difficulty truly speaks to the direction the industry is taking.

A new phenomenon has developed over the last several years. You are driving down the road, the vehicle feels normal and seems to be running properly. And then, not one or two but as many as three warning lights suddenly flare up on your instrument panel. Now what??? It is a very difficult topic to explain verbally - and even more difficult in writing!

The original concept of a warning light, tell-tale, idiot light or whatever you care to call them, was to put the driver's attention on a potentially serious problem. And while that remain true, the very fact is that, in today's advanced automobiles, some systems depend on the proper operation of several others. Thus, a fault in one system will result in the shut down of others that depend on the first.

Thus an instrument panel will show a multitude of illuminated warning lights, the secondary ones effectively telling a driver only that these systems are shut off. A bad case of Multiple Light Syndrome, and, for the average driver, a potentially frightening time indeed.

Advanced stability control and traction control systems are the primary culprits, or more to the point, the electronics that they depend on. And they are the least likely to actually fail. These systems rely on signals from the electronics controlling the operation of the engine, transmission, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and suspension systems. A single glitch in any one of these systems effectively means that that system can no longer be trusted. So, a fault in the ABS illuminates the ABS light, the traction or stability control system light, and the skid warning light.

Tell tales or idiot lights, as they have come to be known, were originally designed to help drivers who didn't understand how to read a gauge. Today's advanced systems are not likely to have a gauge associated with them, so all a warning light can hope to do is get a driver's attention. And in multiples, they are guaranteed to do just that.

The automotive industry turns a blind eye to the fact that the average driver is not a technician, and the circus of tell-tales lit up at once is, bluntly, a frightening sight. The first question is always "is my car safe to drive"? In truth, the answer is nearly always "yes".

Here is the bottom line. Multiple lights rarely, if ever, mean multiple system faults. A fault in the engine, ABS or drive train will result in its associated fault light coming on. That one fault will shut down the traction and/or stability control systems, and those "off" lights will be illuminated to tell you that they are shut down. It is perfectly safe to drive a vehicle with the advanced systems off, as they are designed to kick in only in the most extreme conditions.

Should the problem be addressed? Yes, and as soon as possible. So long as the vehicle seems to be running normally, you have time to reach your dealer for service at minimum. Just add a little more caution to your drive.

However, if the vehicle is not running properly, do not attempt to drive it. Call for roadside assistance right away!

Drivers need help and at DashboardSymbols.com, we are developing tools to do just that. The first tool is a Smartphone app that includes some 100 image and text tell-tales and their descriptions to help drivers translate what they are seeing into useful information. The App is available for iOS, Android and BlackBerry platform. We ultimately intend to help change the way vehicles communicate with drivers. In the meantime, if you are confused by the symbols that show up on your instrument panel, go to http://www.dashboardsymbols.com. There, you will find the most comprehensive list of automotive symbols available anywhere, and access to our tools.

Speeding Ticket Risks and Hazards

ByAloysius Aucoin

You may not think about a speeding ticket as just being something serious, but it is a crime. Even though the consequences are different than other crimes, there are risks to getting too many infractions that you might not even be aware of, but it can end up on your record. If you speed, you could end up hitting a pedestrian, and you could be charged a large amount of money. You could even lose your driver's license.

Many people do not take speed limits seriously and are hazardous on the road by either going too slow and causing road rage or going too fast and causing accidents. It is important to remember that there are consequences to not paying attention to the speed limit signs. If you do this frequently in the same area, it is likely that you are not the only one, and eventually, the police will decide they should try to put radar in the area. If this happens, it is likely that you will get caught.

If you get caught going too fast, you will likely get a speeding ticket or a warning. You will be fortunate if you get a compassionate police officer who might not charge you as much or give you all the points you deserve. Some people will not be as fortunate. It is good to remember that it could be much worse than a speeding ticket. You could have caused an accident or hit a pedestrian because you did not obey the speed limit. If the police officer who pulls you over does put a number of points on your driver's license, then you could end up losing your license for a time. This could be very difficult for you, especially if you need to drive often.

If you find yourself in any situation like this and you do not believe you were at fault, you would be wise to go to court with your speeding ticket. If you do not feel like you can defend your own case, you might even want to hire a lawyer to assist you. Not every situation will call for this, but it is good to know that you have the option if you need it.

Next time you go out on the road, think about the hazards of not following the speed limit. You never know what the consequences could end up being for your going over it. It could end up being worse than having to pay some money. It could mean the loss of a life, and that is something you would never be able to forget. Keep these things in mind, but as accidents do happen, remember that there are lawyers available today that are willing to help you in your situation.

What You Need to Know About UTV Batteries

We all know about ATVs, but not many people are yet fully aware of utility task vehicles or utility terrain vehicles. Like other types of vehicles, there is a lot to know about UTV batteries if you want to get the most out of these workhorses. It is a known fact that no matter how good a vehicle is the type of power source is of great importance.

Utility task vehicles are popular with workers who need to travel back and forth carrying tools over a large area. This way they minimize the load they have to carry by hand as well as moving a lot quicker.

Busy workmen do not want the hassle of their transport breaking down or not starting. One way to prevent this is to always use the right type of UTV batteries.

How to Choose UTV Batteries

Like any other type of motor vehicle accessories, selecting the right parts for the make and kind of vehicles is important for performance. The same principles that are generally used to choose a motorcycle battery or a car battery can be applied when choosing UTV batteries.

The way the vehicle is to be used will also greatly impact the buying decision. Those used for leisure or mostly flat areas need not be as robust as those for vehicles to be used over rough, hilly terrain.

When it comes to choosing UTV batteries it is important to bear in mind that these vehicles depend a lot on battery power to get started. Unlike a motorbike, which has a kick-start functionality, these vehicles do not. Based on this, it is a good idea to buy the best that your budget can afford for top performance.

AGM maintenance-free UTV batteries are a popular choice with owners of these types of rides. Some points to bear in mind when purchasing them are:

Dreams of Owning a Supercar? A Look at How Today's Middle Class Have Joined the Club

When one thinks of today's modern supercar owner, we think of the world's lucky 1% of billionaires and millionaires, driving through the opulent streets of Monte Carlo with not one financial worry in the world. Fortunately in 2012 that stereotype is no longer associated with the "supercar", as supercars have now been made available to the average class individual. Don't believe me? Look up the Cadillac CTS-V. What defines an actual supercar would depend on who you ask.

At first thought, we associate the term "super" with mind-blowing, larger than life, the cream of the crop! So can we categorize a car as "super" based off of if it makes you feel really good and better than the people behind you on the freeway? The topic has been the cause of conflict between leading brands in the "supercar" segment, and their mass production mainstream counterparts. Luxury brands feel as if there is a rule book to abide to, while mainstream brands just feel they can do better than their new current competition. The birth of the new and improved modern Supercar began when Cadillac unveiled its new CTS-V brand in 2008. Here was a car which provided 556 bhp, Alcantara leather seating, navigation touch screen, paddle shifted transmission w/ automatic selection, a roaring 8 cylinder engine all for a mere $59k.

American powerhouse automakers have found a new lane in the "supercar" segment, and official sales numbers have far exceeded predictions. With new emission laws on the 3-year horizon, many brands have decided to stray away from usual makings of a "supercar" and add more advanced economic choices to their new model line ups. American brands like Cadillac and Daimler Chrysler have decided to do both. The unveiling of Chryslers SRT300C and its accompanying Dodge Charger SRT for the 2012 calendar year has shown the growth in refinement of American Supercars, now allowing their flagship vehicles to compete with head honchos in Europe. When you add the factor of getting cars which are built to compete with Europe's current production line for nearly half the price, it makes living in the time of the modern supercar a complete thrill.

Technology is finally at a point where everyone has access to what the wealthy have had privilege to for the last 15 or so years. With Asian brands taking notice and now offering affordable supercars to existing production, the advancement of this segment has no limits. We truly live in the era of great driving.

Running a Mobile Car Wash in Mobile Alabama

Before retirement, I had franchised mobile car washing units in some 23 states serving 450 cities. Interestingly enough, there are some states which are pretty much a pain in the butt to do business, and then there are states which are a pleasure to do business, generally the difference is due to the rules regulations and the customers themselves. Alabama is one of those states which is fun to do business, and some of the cities are spectacularly pleasing. Okay so, let's talk about this for a moment shall we.

Mobile Alabama has personality, soul, and it has energy. It is definitely a fun place to do business. Some areas and sides of town are somewhat economically depressed, and that's unfortunate, but there is a good amount of labor supply in those areas, and the folks are willing to work hard, and they enjoy cleaning cars. Who wouldn't enjoy driving around and detailing cars and cleaning cars at office buildings outside all day? It's a fun profession.

In the downtown area there are big parking structures, and surrounding Mobile Alabama are very nice middle-class neighborhoods to do business. The downtown parking structures are nice in the larger office buildings, it is not too difficult to get a concession and therefore secure the parking structure of a building with an exclusive contract for all of the tenants.

One of the challenges in Mobile Alabama perhaps is the weather issue. In the wintertime it rains often, and in the spring and summer, as we all know they are challenged with tropical storms and the occasional hurricane. Meanwhile in the summer it is hot and sticky, which makes work a little tough.

There are some very well-to-do areas which turn out to be really good places to work and derive additional business. For instance the upper-end area in Daphne over the bridge, very nice, very regulated, and lots of auto detailing customers. Not to mention boats and yachts to clean up. But washing and detailing is a good business, and there is lots of it. When the weather is poor, a mobile car wash operator may be able to use their pressure washer to clean sidewalks, tourist areas, and even storefronts.

All in all, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Mobile Alabama a solid eight of the best places to do mobile auto detailing and mobile car washing here in the US. Therefore, if you are considering starting your own business of this type in Alabama, you might wish to look into the Mobile area, and give it some good thought. Please consider all this and think on it.

Running a Mobile Car Wash in Birmingham Alabama

Birmingham is a great city for the mobile auto detailing and car wash business. Also, lots of fleet trucks to clean as it is on the I-20 and in fact, there are many freeways and major highways which intersect in Birmingham. It's a college town, distribution hub, and the largest city in the state, with a large population. Although the city itself has some financial challenges for its budget issues the business community is doing fine there.

The economic development association has convinced foreign companies to build factories. This has provided a solid employment base, and an ever emerging middle class. Even those folks in the lower class tend to drive nicer cars, and have decent credit because of their employment, and they love to keep their cars cleaned. Since Birmingham Alabama is such a large city with good labor, and college kids looking for work, it's easy to run a professional mobile detailing business in the city.

Of course, because it is such a large distribution area, I would also recommend the cleaning of fleets of vehicles; delivery companies, trucking companies, and other service vehicles. There are all sorts of utility companies which have large fleets of vehicles, along with Rent-A-Car companies, and government vehicles. There are some challenges during certain times of the day due to traffic, but since there is so much business it is possible to schedule your routes in a tight proximity, allowing you to work in a specific area without moving around a lot or wasting time driving. This also saves on fuel costs.

One thing we really appreciated in Birmingham Alabama was the reality that many of the folks who would answer the ads to become a car washer or detailer on one of our crews, also came with at least some experience. Some of them had worked at car washes before, others had worked in a detail shop, and at minimum they had clean their own car, and knew a lot about washing and waxing. And they could talk your ear off about NASCAR, they are totally into it.

Perhaps the biggest benefit is the college labor, clean-cut kids who are willing to work hard, albeit on a shortened work schedule during the week. The hospitality and friendliness of the city is not common to other areas of this country, and that makes it even more enjoyable to do business there. If you are considering running a mobile auto services business in Alabama, you'd be wise to look at Birmingham, it's got a lot going for it. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Simple Wheel Buying Advice - Worth Considering

ByJared W Sutherland

It goes without saying that one needs to follow some simple tips and also follow the right wheel buying advice when it comes to buying wheels. You may want to check for online tips and practical wheel buying advice. There are many websites that advertise tire and rim packages and you may want to try out different combination of wheels and tires. When you purchase the correct size of tires, your wheels will run perfectly and the speedometer should also show accurate readings.

A smart customer should ideally go in for rim and tire packages that would fit your car. There are many websites that advertise about wheel offers. However, when buying, make sure to purchase the right size of wheels. When you go in for the package deal, you can have them do the installation. It is as simple as that. If you purchase the wheels and tires as a package, it works out cheaper and you also have the satisfaction of having it done by professionals and that the wheel alignment is perfect. Browsing the online sites for vehicles accessories would also give you an idea of the availability of wheels in the market.

There is tough competition in this field, thanks to the number of sites selling accessories. It is always better to communicate directly with the people that are selling the wheels and tires. Many a times the deals that are put up as advertisements on the internet are over expressive as to what they offer and often do not sell good quality products. Hence, you should purchase from reputable stores that will sell you high quality products and services.

Understanding the nuances of buying wheels

It is important to firstly understand the nuances associated with buying wheels. It is definitely not worth wasting your money on second hand wheels as it could give problems later on down the road. Refrain from purchasing inferior quality wheels. Also check the wheel buying guide as it will guide you on purchasing good quality and new wheels and will give you a safe ride.

The style of riding also has a bearing on the type of wheels one may want to purchase. Light weight wheels are ideal when you want to make quick rides. If there is a lot of mountain and terrain driving, then you obviously have to check out for high shock absorption wheels that are able to take the shock. Wider wheels are ideal for absorbing shock and pressure and are very good for driving on mountains and hilly terrain.

When maintaining the wheels, one has to ensure that they are in top condition and check them on a regular basis to check for punctures or if you need to replace any of the spokes. With regular maintenance checks, there should be no cause for worry.

Summary

You may want to check with friends, relatives or neighbors if they visit any specific wheel maintenance agency. If they are satisfied with the services provided, then you can simply go ahead with that agency and in the process save considerable efforts and time.

Another source for information on rims tires and the like would be to visit http://www.wheelandtireoutfitters.com. The folks at Wheel and Tire Outfitters provide friendly and helpful customer service as well as very affordable prices on over 150 brands of wheels and tires. They also give you the best search tools available that ensure you will get the correct size of wheels for your vehicle. They also provide live chat on every page so you can get help immediately. You can call them at (641) 373-1539 or send an email to sales

Fisker Karma Moves in the Right Direction

ByMichael Chestney

Many bloggers who write about environmental issues have written a Fisker review about Karma. Personal opinion does not quite hold the weight of the EPA. It is widely known that car companies can, and often do, exaggerate their fuel estimates somewhat. Their marketers do the research and put out what people are likely to want to hear. However, the official EPA numbers often temper the marketers' exuberance. When the EPA tested the Karma, the results showed the marketers' hype. However, the Karma still offers encouragement in greening the luxury car manufacturing business.

The Karma had received a great deal of media attention when people heard that the car could go 50 miles on a single electric charge. The claim that the hybrid engine could get almost the same 50 miles per gallon was impressive. The EPA test results showed an average of 32 miles on an electric charge and 20 miles per gallon for the hybrid engine. When combined into an mpg-equivalent, the total was a 52 MPGe rating. While other electric and hybrid cars exceed this rating, it is important to note that this is a significant step up for fuel efficiency in the luxury car domain.

Some people may take comfort in knowing that the EPA has historically deflated expectations. For example, in 2009 when news of the long awaited Chevy Volt started showing up in online car forums, GM suggested their bright electric star might possibly get 230 MPGe. However, after the EPA got through with their tests, they found the Volt achieved an average of 35 miles on a single charge and around 90 MPGe. This is not so different from the Fisker Karma, except that the Fisker is designed to punch out a lot more power and to offer a very comfortable ride.

Fox News took the EPA's findings to denigrate the Fisker's fuel economy. However, when its 52 MPGe is compared to most other cars on the road, the savvy listener will realize that's pretty darn good fuel economy for a luxury vehicle. Fisker CEO, Henrik Fisker, pointed out that the EPA's test is not conclusive. It is simply an average of the driving habits of many. Improved fuel efficiency can be achieved through good driving habits on the average road. In any case, the EPA estimates bring the Karma very close to the 54.5 mpg average that auto makers will aim to reach by 2025. The Karma is one step closer to a new luxury car paradigm.

What to Ask When Buying a Used Car

ByDan Tole

Unlike a brand new car, a used car has a history. There is always going to be more uncertainty when buying a used car instead of a new car. Buying a used car can be a much more economical decision since not everybody is in the market for a new car. However, it's important to take the right steps and ask the right questions when considering a used car. You don't want to find out crucial information about the car when it's too late. Before purchasing a used car, ask these questions:

Why Is It Being Sold?
If you are looking to buy a used car from a private seller, find out why it is being sold in the first place. If the seller just bought a new car or the car wasn't even theirs to begin with and they are selling it on behalf of a relative, they may just want the cash and not want to deal with the hassle anymore. This means that they will probably be more willing to negotiate.

What Is the Car History?
It's important to know the history of the vehicle and have access to service records. Information like how many previous owners it had and if it was in any accidents should be provided. If purchasing from a dealer, find out if it was a trade in or if it was bought at auction.

Will Cash Get a Lower Price?
If you are able to pay for a used vehicle with cash, you may be able to get a lower price. Cash means that the dealer will get the payment immediately in full, so they may be willing to shave some money off of the price tag.

Has Any Work Been Done Recently?
In order to increase the value, a dealer may do some work on a used vehicle after they acquire it. This knowledge will help you better establish a fair value of the car.

Are Trade-Ins Accepted?
If you are buying a car, it's likely that you are replacing another car. If you don't want to try and sell the old car on your own, ask the dealer if they accept trade-ins and find out what the offer would be.

Is There a Warranty?
A certified pre-owned vehicle may come with a manufacturer's warranty. Be sure to understand the terms of the warranty such as how much time or mileage is left on it, before agreeing to purchase the vehicle.

2011's Best-Selling Cars in the US

The year 2011 has been a significant year for the US automobile industry since the vehicle sales figures within this period has turned out well despite of the continuous economic unrest and financial crisis that had happened. In fact, a lot of buyers have decided to purchase new cars and this trend has benefitted some of the car manufacturers. However, a number of car makers who failed to meet their annual sales target and this situation made 2011 a not-so favourable year for them.

But despite of the losses incurred by some of the car manufacturers that operate in the US automobile market, a few car models were considered to be among the bestselling cars for 2011 and these are the following.

1. Ford F-Series

Ford's F-Series or the company's pickup truck line-up could be considered as the best-selling vehicle models for 2011. Statistics shows that Ford was able to sell around 584,917 units of these pickup trucks to commercial buyers. The increased sales of the F-Series could somehow be attributed to the growing demand for hardworking vehicles among Americans. Although a lot of car buyers prefer to buy sedans and SUVs their numbers are not yet enough to match those that are in need of pickup trucks. This could simply mean that majority of the Americans are still into the idea of purchasing trucks as their personal vehicles since pickups are reliable and capable of performing a number of task that other types of vehicle cannot.

2. Chevrolet Silverado

General Motors' Chevrolet Silverado emerged as the second best-selling car in the US in 2011. Chevrolet dealerships sold about 415, 130 units of the Silverado in 2011. This also shows that most Americans are still in need or probably prefer to purchase pickup trucks. The Silverado was introduced a few years ago but its appeal to the buying public still remains unquestioned.
