The year 2011 has been a significant year for the US automobile industry since the vehicle sales figures within this period has turned out well despite of the continuous economic unrest and financial crisis that had happened. In fact, a lot of buyers have decided to purchase new cars and this trend has benefitted some of the car manufacturers. However, a number of car makers who failed to meet their annual sales target and this situation made 2011 a not-so favourable year for them.
But despite of the losses incurred by some of the car manufacturers that operate in the US automobile market, a few car models were considered to be among the bestselling cars for 2011 and these are the following.
1. Ford F-Series
Ford's F-Series or the company's pickup truck line-up could be considered as the best-selling vehicle models for 2011. Statistics shows that Ford was able to sell around 584,917 units of these pickup trucks to commercial buyers. The increased sales of the F-Series could somehow be attributed to the growing demand for hardworking vehicles among Americans. Although a lot of car buyers prefer to buy sedans and SUVs their numbers are not yet enough to match those that are in need of pickup trucks. This could simply mean that majority of the Americans are still into the idea of purchasing trucks as their personal vehicles since pickups are reliable and capable of performing a number of task that other types of vehicle cannot.
2. Chevrolet Silverado
General Motors' Chevrolet Silverado emerged as the second best-selling car in the US in 2011. Chevrolet dealerships sold about 415, 130 units of the Silverado in 2011. This also shows that most Americans are still in need or probably prefer to purchase pickup trucks. The Silverado was introduced a few years ago but its appeal to the buying public still remains unquestioned. This trend was probably brought about by General Motors' efforts of upgrading the Silverado's features to meet the needs of buyers.
3. Toyota Camry
Toyota sold about 308, 510 units of the Camry in the US in 2011. This could be considered as a clear indication that the Camry is still one of the most popular sedans in the US. In addition to this, the Camry's impressive sales for 2011 marks Toyota's success in reviving the model's glory after the company experienced heavy blows such as the March 11 earthquake in Japan and a few recall issues.
4. Nissan Altima
Despite of the shortage in supply brought about by different reasons, the Nissan Altima emerged as the fourth best-selling car in the US for 2011. Nissan dealerships sold a total of 268, 981 units of the Altima and they could have sold more if the model's production was that stable.
5. Ford Escape
The Ford Escape was the recognized as the fifth best-selling cars in the US. Ford dealers were able to sell 254, 923 units of the Escape. Due to this, Ford was encouraged to implement some improvements on the overall features of the vehicle and try to increase the model's total sales this year.
